Why Pet Funerals?
I am a life-long animal lover and pet owner, so I know the joy that a much loved pet brings to daily life - and the heartache that losing this best friend and constant companion inevitably brings.
The grief can be overwhelming.
Our animal friends are an integral part of our family and, I believe, should be treated with the same love, care and respect as the human kind.
As a Buddhist, I believe that the lives of all living beings are worthy of remembrance. I am happy to perform the practice known as powa (transference of consciousness) for your beloved pet. In this ceremony special prayers are recited to release the soul of the deceased from the cycle of rebirth and to enjoy rebirth in a pure land, where they will be permanently free from all harm and suffering.
As a civil celebrant, I will create a dignified ceremony which will take place in your home or garden, or a location that was significant to your pet, where you may release the ashes, or at the pet cemetery or crematorium (where permission is granted).
A pet funeral ceremony is similar to that of a person. It can include all the same elements like tributes, readings, candle lighting, reflection and music. Ceremonies can involve the family members as much or as little as you feel is appropriate.
This can be especially beneficial for children who may be experiencing their first painful loss of a loved one and seeking ways to come to terms with it.
Saying farewell in a meaningful way is very important when you have lost someone you love, and losing a pet can be as devastating as losing a person for some. Holding a ceremony for your pet is a chance to mourn your companion’s passing, gain support in your grief from the family and friends attending and, significantly, celebrate your pet’s life. No matter how large or small your pet and no matter how long he/she was on this earth, they mean something uniquely special to you.
You may choose to have your pet's body present in a casket – prior to cremation or burial – or the ceremony can be conducted with the remains in an urn, at the scattering of the ashes or burial.
I will plan, compose and conduct a bespoke service that will honour your pet in a fitting way, with compassion and sensitivity. As a result of my service, I hope all those who knew and loved your pet will be able to take some comfort at such a sad time.
Why Adora Pet Funerals?
Adora 'Tinkerbell' Newman was, quite simply, my daughter's best friend. When they first met, both were a little bit troubled and in need of a special friend. The love that developed over the time they had together was beautiful to see as they both began to flourish under one another's care.

Dora taught my lovely daughter so many important life lessons - including the hardest one of all: saying good-bye to someone you love. So I chose to name this aspect of my work as a funeral celebrant Adora Pet Funerals to honour the amazing horse that was our Dora: you remain in our hearts forever, darling girl.
